AIFF Offer Doesn’t Make Sense at All: ISL Organizers

It seems that nothing seems to work in Indian football whether it’s Men’s Team performance, Administrational issues and the latest to Join the bandwagon is none other than ISL(India’s Top Tier Football League) approved by All India Football Federation.

Based on latest developments, The Master Rights Agreement was signed between AIFF and FSDL( Football Sports Development Limited) which is Joint Venture by Reliance along with Star Sports they chalked through ISL roadmap over the years.

The Masters Rights Agreement is all set to end on 8th December 2025, the biggest question arises if new MRA is not signed between AIFF and FSDL, ISL could be tentatively put on hold which would directly mean impacting the life of Players, Coaches and Franchise owners who are directly associated with league.

Recently Skipper Sunil Chhetri stated with media outlets “I am seriously sad to see the current state of Indian Football and primarily ISL with so much happening behind the scenes where I go every person associated with club keeps on asking me what will be future of this league”.

Before we dwell into further problems surrounding Indian Super League, let’s talk a little bit about ISL current MRA based on that  ( The ISL organizers were either 50 crore rupees or the amount if higher than 50 crore once the league end).

The ISL Organizers few days back wrote letter to AIFF for revising MRA so that the distributions of funds could be done at all levels which include- FSDL should get 26%, AIFF should get 14% and Clubs should get 60%.

AIFF is not ready to accept that decision instead they want to stick with the same agreement also they want revenue from All India National and International competition which ISL organizers find undesirable and doesn’t make sense at al.

“This doesn’t make sense at all, all the hardwork is being done by organizers and clubs where the latter is hardly making any return on investment where they have spend around 500 crores without making profits all. Most of Clubs are operating on Cash Buring model for the love of the game” said ISL organizers official close to FSDL.

“If New MRA Agreement involves- the changes suggested by us then only clubs would get significant benefits otherwise sticking with old MRA would mean loss making model for us. ” The official added.

The Administrative Challenges in Indian Football Federation is another talking point which is clearly making mockery of entire ecosystem as few days back, AIFF drops ISL from their calender which doesn’t make any logical sense at all under any circumstances.

The ISL every year is conducted most probably in the month of September- March and the worst thing Leagues aren’t helping Indian players in terms of boosting their skills that could be evidently found out based on things are operating at the moment as all these players the moment they wear Blue Jersey they are completely exposed against high ranked teams.

Let’s Talk about Three Possible solutions to resolve the current dilemma in Indian Football which include:

  1. Supereme Court who is currently handling AIFF Case throughly appoint some of the most equopeed people who wants to see Indian Football thriving only then meritocracy could be developed. The elections should be conducted in fair and transparent manner so that capable people could come into administration and work on structural reform in Indian Football.
  2. Proper Talent Scouting Programs needs to be development where talented players pool is developed and they could be possibly groomed for next level.
  3. Lastly allow Overseas Citizens of India and Person of Indian Origin often abbreviated as OCI and PIO should be allowed to play for Indian National team so that level of competition within the team grows at significant pedestal. The moment Overseas player would come into the squad all the Indian players who have become complacent thinking that they would never be replaced even if they don’t well would work extra harder to make place in team. The structural reforms, consistent policies and systematic system is required now in order to produce substantial results in next 20-30 years it will all start if all these reforms are taken into consideration from today onwards. Otherwise India’s dream to play in FIFA would still remain a Nightmare until and unless real problems and solutions aren’t addressed at all.
