West Ham faces Liverpool in Wednesday’s Premier League clash at the London Stadium. West Ham hope to move themselves clear of the Premier League relegation zone when they host Liverpool on Wednesday.
West Ham United
West Ham’s 4th Round exit from the FA Cup at the hands of West Brom at the weekend, which followed on from their dismal 4-1 thrashing at Leicester in midweek, reiterated the point that changing managers doesn’t always result in a change of fortunes.
The Hammers are now on a four match winless streak under David Moyes, three of which have ended in defeat and subsequently pushed them closer to a disastrous relegation. They currently sit 17th in the table, only above 19th placed Watford on goal difference.
The London Stadium has never been the cosiest of homes since West Ham’s move there, and that translates into results on the pitch. They have won just one of their last eight Premier League home games, losing on five occasions and leaving them with the second worst home form in the top flight.
Liverpool
This will be something that Liverpool want to take advantage of, and they definitely have the talent to do so. Their chances of lifting the FA Cup may have been harmed by that stunning late brace from Jason Cummings on Sunday, but they still look utterly unstoppable in the league.
Liverpool have now won 22 of their 23 Premier League matches this season, including each of their last 14 outings. Their last top flight defeat came all the way back in January 2019, and this remarkable form has left them with a 15 point lead and a game in hand in the race for the title.
A quick glance at West Ham’s defensive record will have perked the ears of Liverpool’s illustrious attackers too. The Hammers have shipped 12 goals in their last six home matches, and they have conceded three goals or more on four occasions at the London Stadium this season.
In fairness to West Ham, they do often find their way onto the scoresheet too. In fact, they have only failed to score in one home league match this season, and the result has been plenty of high scoring affairs. Five of their last six Premier League games at home have yielded at least three goals, and with Liverpool seeing three or more goals in five of their last six league away days, we like the look of a Liverpool win and over 2.5 goals.

WHU VS LIV: Best players
West Ham: Manuel Lanzini
Before the season many were backing West Ham to secure a top-half finish on the back of possessing a plethora of creative footballers. Instead of dreaming about playing in Europe, the focus under Moyes is preserving their Premier League status, and key to those chances is attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini. The Argentine stands the best chance of anyone wearing claret and blue disrupting the runaway league leaders on Wednesday evening.
Key stat: No one has created more chances in the Premier League for West Ham this season than Manuel Lanzini (17).
Liverpool: Roberto Firmino
As the battle for top scorer is fought between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, the selfless Roberto Firmino has quietly gone about his business. It’s perhaps by the Brazilian is valued at £1.96 on Football Index compared to Mane’s £3.05 and Salah’s £4.09. But Firmino’s price has risen over the past week as fans finally begin to see how important he is to Liverpool.
Interestingly, the Brazilian deep-lying forward has become a specialist on the road, so far all of his strikes in the Premier League this season have come exclusively away from Anfield. The Brazilian will be keen to add another to his tally in east London.
Key stat: Roberto Firmino is Liverpool’s most prolific Premier League goalscorer on the road with eight goals.
