Watch : Virat Kohli make a shocking revelation about his time as India captain!

Former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli during RCB Podcast season 2 ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League disclosed plenty of unknown and surprising informations that took place in his illustrious career.

The 34-year-old top-order batter will be in action against Australia for the 3rd Border-Gavaskar trophy 2023 at Holkar Stadium. A lot of anticipation and expectation is revolving around Kohli who has gone over 2 years without scoring a Century.

His last ton in the red-ball format came in 2019 against Bangladesh when he scored 136 runs at the Eden Gardens. Since then, Kohli has gone as high as 79 runs but he has been unable to convert into triple figures. In the first 2 Test against Australia, the Delhi-born batter got out unfortunately to debutants Todd Murphy and Mathew Kuhnemann.

Before the India squares off and ahead of the Indian Premier League 2023, Kohli sat down for season 2 of the RCB podcast. The host threw in plenty of questions and the Batter answered each of them with a smile on his face. One of the things of discussion was his time as the Captain of India.

As we all know team India under Kohli’s leadership, played 4 major ICC tournaments which includes – ICC Champions Trophy 2017, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, ICC World Test championship final in 2021 and the ICC T20 World cup in the same year.

India reached at least the semi-finals of 3 of the above mentioned tournaments except for the T20 World cup in 2021. Up first was the CT final against Pakistan where the blues lost, then a tough knockout from the CWC semi-final against New Zealand and WTC final against the Kiwis.

After the losses, Kohli revealed that he was considered as a captain who heavily failed to deliver results at the most crucial moments.

“Look, you play to win tournaments. I captained in Champions Trophy 2017 (reached the final), 2019 World Cup (reached the semifinal), I captained in World Test Championship (reached the final), and T20 World Cup in 2021 (failed to qualify for the knockouts). After three (four) ICC tournaments, I was considered as a failed captain.”

Despite his failure, Kohli said that tournaments come and go but him building a friendly and a good culture in dressing room is what makes him proud. “A tournament happens for a certain period of time but a culture happens over a long period of time and for that you need consistency for that you need more characters than just winning a tournament.”
