T20 World Cup 2024: How Pakistani Journalist and Fans appreciated India's Victory against South Africa?

Virat Kohli uplifts emotional Rohit Sharma after India’s dominant win

India’s secured a dominant 68-run victory over England in the T20 World Cup semi-final. A video capturing a tender moment between the two stars – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – has gone viral, showing the camaraderie between the Indian team.

England, chasing a modest target of 172, witnessed a spectacular bowling performance by Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) and Axar Patel (3/23) who dismantled the English batting line-up, restricting them to a mere 103 runs. The victory propelled India into their second consecutive World Cup final, this time against an equally dominant South Africa.

While the team was celebrating, video clips showed the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, outside the dressing room, looking rather thoughtful. Nevertheless, victory being obvious on his team, somewhat of a seriousness settled over him. It is here that Virat Kohli, India’s former captain and a friend to Rohit Sharma intervenes and lifts up his fellow player.

The video shows that Kohli approaches Rohit, who looks tearful, and the former pats the latter on the shoulder. Suryakumar Yadav who had a good partnership with Rohit during India’s batting also offered his hand and patted the knee of the captain.

The expectations that come with having to be in charge of a team, especially in the most important event like the T20 World Cup are colossal. One decision and one wasted moment in a match can be the cause of criticism from fans and experts. Even though Rohit is relatively experienced and a regular player in the Indian team, he might have felt the pressure at that juncture.

India now is a step away from history with the final against South Africa being the match up. While victory will see their names written in cricketing history, it will also see an end to the team’s suffering of a major trophy drought previously tasted in 2013. Of course, they will feel the pressure, but their intense bonds within the team and dedication of the fans will help relieve this pressure.

Alone with the support from his fellow players, further advice from his buddy Virat, Rohit Sharma will ensure that he takes India to the right path to achieve its much-deserved triumph of having his own name written down in the cricketing history books. The T20 World Cup final will be a very close affair, but, with such a well led and supported team, India stands a fair chance of winning the much sought after cup.
