Top 5 highest individual scores in women’s Test
Women’s Tests are rare, which makes sensational performances and records all the more valuable. Tammy Beaumont’s double-hundred in the Ashes Test is a great example of the talent on display and why the longest format should be played more often. Here are the top five highest individual scores in women’s Tests.
Tammy Beaumont – 208
Annabel Sutherland and Ellyse Perry’s contributions helped Australia score 473 runs in their first innings. To stay in the game, England needed a strong response, and Tammy Beaumont delivered. She formed important partnerships with Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt and scored her first double hundred in Tests. Thanks to her efforts, England only trailed by 10 runs, and the game is still undecided.
Karen Rolton – 209
Karen Rolton, a legendary former Australian batter, is next on the list. She scored a double hundred that helped Australia win the Test series 2-0 against England in Leeds in 2001. England struggled in their first innings, only scoring 144 runs. Rolton’s unbeaten 209 helped Australia declare on 383/4 with enough time to get a result. England fought hard in the second innings but only managed to set a target of seven runs. Australia won comfortably, and Rolton was named Player of the Match.
Ellyse Perry – 213
Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry scored an incredible double-hundred in the women’s Ashes. England was bowled out for just 280 in Sydney in 2017, and Australia responded with a staggering 448/9, thanks to Perry’s unbeaten 213*. She batted England out of the Test match, and although England showed some fight in the second innings, they could only manage a draw.
Mithali Raj – 214
In 2002, Mithali Raj, a legendary Indian batter, played one of the best innings of her career in Taunton. She scored 214 runs on arguably the best batting pitch in England, giving India a massive first-innings lead of 138 runs. England had to fight hard in their second innings to avoid losing the game. This match showcased the potential of a young Mithali, who would go on to achieve great things in the next two decades.
Kiran Baluch – 242
Former Pakistan opener Kiran Baluch still holds the record for the highest score in the history of women’s Tests. She achieved this feat against the West Indies in 2004, scoring a marathon inning that helped Pakistan post 426/7 in their first innings. West Indies were bowled out for 147 in response and were asked to follow on. In their second innings, the hosts showed great determination, scoring 440 and setting a fighting target of 162. The match could have had an interesting end had there been more time, as Pakistan was 56/2 when the match ended in a draw.
