Thounaojam Jeakson Singh Biography
Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, an Indian professional footballer who plays defensive midfield for Kerala Blasters of the Indian Super League and the India national team, was born on June 21, of the year 2001.
Football Club Career
Born in Manipur, Jeakson was introduced to football at a young age by his father, who was a coach. Jeakson Singh Thounaojam left his hometown to join the Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA) and later joined Minerva Punjab Academy, where he played for the club’s youth team. After winning the AIFF U-15 & U-16 Youth League titles two years in a row, Jeakson was selected to play for the Indian Arrows on loan from Minerva Punjab.
In the month of October of the year 2018, Jeakson was signed by Kerala Blasters Reserves and made five appearances in the I-League 2nd Division. Jeakson Singh Thounaojam was promoted to the senior team in the 2019–20 Indian Super League and scored his first goal in the league. Thounaojam was awarded the Emerging Player of the Match award and featured in 13 games in his debut season for the senior side.
On 12 December of the year 2020, the Blasters extended Jeakson’s contract until the end of the 2023 season. Thounaojam scored his first goal in the Indian Super League and provided an assist to Álvaro Vázquez in a 3–0 victory against Mumbai City FC. Jeakson also played in the Southern Derby against the football club of Bengaluru on 20 January of the year 2021.
In the 2021–2022 season, Jeakson was included in the Blasters squad for the 2021 Durand Cup, playing all three matches for the club. Thounaojam played his first match against the football club of East Bengal in the opening match of the season on 7 October, which they won 3–1. Jeakson Singh Thounaojam was also included in the Blasters’ squad for the 2023 Indian Super Cup season after the exit in the infamous ISL knockout stage match.
In the 2023–2024 season, Jeakson became the longest-serving player of the Blasters after the departure of Sahal Abdul Samad. International Football Career
Jeakson competed on behalf of the India under-17 team at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which was held in India. Jeakson Singh Thounaojam scored India’s first-ever goal in a FIFA World Cup match against Colombia on October 9, of the year 2017, in India’s second game of the competition. Jeakson Singh Thounaojam’s header from a corner in the 82nd minute gave the football team of India the equalizer, but they gave up again a minute later and lost 2-1 as a result. Later, Jeakson participated in the Indian under-20 and under-23 football teams.
Jeakson Singh Thounaojam was included on the list of probable for India’s World Cup Qualifier against Qatar after a breakout season with Kerala Blasters in the 2019–2021 season, but he didn’t make the final roster.
Jeakson was a member of the final roster for India’s friendly against Oman and the United Arab Emirates in the month of March of the year 2021. On March 25, of the year 2021, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam made his debut in a 1-1 tie with the football team of Oman.
Jeakson was chosen for the 23-man Indian team competing in the SAFF Championship in the Maldives in the year 2021. Personal Life
Amarjit Singh Kiyam, his cousin, is a football player as well. In the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India, both of them competed for the Indian under-17 national team, which Amarjit led. Currently, Amarjit competes for Goa. His younger sister, football player Kritina Devi Thounaojam, played for India’s youth teams.
