The king of clay faces a tough first round in his farewell French Open
The 14-time champion at the Roland Garros French Open and the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, has been pitted against fourth seed Alexander Zverev in the first round match of the 2024 French Open. Nadal has already announced that this is his last year on the tour, which means this will be his farewell French Open tournament.

It will be the first time that Nadal will play in the French Open Grand Slam as an unseeded player. Being a player with a protected ranking, facing a top seed in the first round was always on the cards for Rafa, and now he has a tough draw against the Italian Open winner, Zverev.
The Roland Garros French Open has been Nadal’s arena for a very long time, as he has an impeccable win-loss record of 112-3 at the clay court. No other player has even come close to Nadal on the clay court, but the injuries he has sustained in the past 1.5 years pose a tough challenge for him.
The last time Rafa played in the tournament was in 2022, where he won it against all odds, and once again, the odds and everything else are stacked against him. Nadal is a player who is known for his excellent mental strength, endurance, precision, determination, and never-give-up attitude, and we are certain that he will not go down without giving his all.
Alexander Zverev is in brilliant form right now and will pose a tough challenge in front of the king of clay. Nadal’s body is not at 100% currently, and that may add up to him facing a tough time in his first round match at the French Open 2024.

Rafael Nadal vs. Alexander Zverev: Head-to-Head
Zverev is one of the very few players to have beaten Nadal on clay. In their overall head-to-head record, Nadal has the lead against Zverev by 7-3. In the matches on clay, Nadal again leads Zverev by 5-1, losing once in the Madrid Open 2021.
As the situation gets tougher, we all know Rafael Nadal is the best tennis player ever born on this planet and will be fighting till his last breath to compete and go all the way in his farewell French Open Grand Slam.
