Sunil Gavaskar Warns Rohit Sharma And Co Ahead Of 4th Test Against Australia

Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, demanded balanced pitches during the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy after the International Cricket Council docked Indore’s Holkar Stadium three demerit points (ICC). Gavaskar thinks the hosts’ handling of the pitch, which made headlines for being excessively spinner-friendly, could have a negative effect. The top performances for Australia in the four-match series were Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon, and the former captain issued a warning to India before the fourth Test.

“I believe that needs to be thought about a bit more. In 2012–13, Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar’s pitch backfired, leading to England’s victory. The thought of having pitches of this calibre doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. You want to have fields where the balance between ball and bat is good. You want a pitch where the new-ball bowlers can receive some assistance for the first few days and the batsmen can play through the line and score runs. Then, on Days 3 and 4, things would start to change a bit “India Today quoted Gavaskar.

He added “I’m not sure what will occur in Ahmedabad. India may succeed in winning if the pitch in Ahmedabad is a raging turner, but the pitch may once again receive demerit points.”

Several former cricket players, including Gavaskar, have criticised the pitches utilised in the series. Currently, India is leading the four match series by 2-1. On March 9 in Ahmedabad, India will play Australia in the fourth Test match.
