Former Australian captain Steve Waugh is on a discovery mission to India, in which he wants to discover more about the country and its people. For about 17 days last month, he traveled throughout the country, capturing images that encapsulate the spirit of India.steve-waugh-india

From January 10 to 27, Waugh visited Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Agra, Mathura, Baroda, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Dharamsala and Kolkata taking pictures of Indian Cricket – from cricket being played in the gullies, to the mountains, to the paddy fields and the sandy villages.

According to reports, Waugh went to every possible place where Cricket is played in the country. He has captured images of the game even in the living room of a palace.

“The idea is to capture India through its lenses and create a book. He was fascinated by the passion for the game since his game days. He has taken thousands of images. He himself raised or captured snapshots that represent the spirit of India,” said Waugh’s assistant as per Mumbai Mirror.

He also went to National Cricket Academy for the Blind in Delhi and to Meerut where India’s biggest bat manufacturing company is. Then he was off to Mathura and Agra as well.

“I’ve just taken 20,000 photographs from my 17-day trip all over India. This book will showcase the spirit of Cricket in India and explore why Cricket is a religion to the people. I have also over 50 hours of video footage to be turned into a documentary-style program. I will be editing all the above work over the next few months with the aim to sell the book by August. I’m hoping corporates in India will buy this as a gift to give their clients,” the 54-year-old former Australia captain told Mirror.
