One of the finest all-rounders to have played the game of cricket, Shane Watson made his debut back in 2002. The all-rounder wore Australian colours for as many as 13 years, making a bunch of records to his name.

Looking at his illustrious career, he has played as many as 190 ODIs and 59 test matches, scoring 5757 and 3731 runs respectively. Not only for Australia, but Watson has also been a force to reckon with in IPL as well.

While CSK all-rounder last played an international game in 2015, he still plies his trade in IPL for Chennai Super Kings. Given his long and impressive career, Watson has played under a lot of captains.

The Australian cricketer made his debut under Ricky Ponting and also played under Michael Clarke and Steve Smith. He made his IPL debut under Shane Warne’s captaincy, followed which he played under Virat Kohli and for the last two years, the Australian stalwart has been playing under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Watson was asked about his favourite captain he has played under, to which, the Aussie picked 4 names, including two Indians.

Watson named Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni as the best captains he has played under.

Looking at his IPL career, Watson has played 134 matches, scoring 3575 runs at an average of 31.08 and a strike rate of 139.53.  Warner’s best year came in 2018, where he scored 555 runs, including 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries to his name. 

 Watson began his career as a middle-order batsman before he turned into a prolific opener for the team.  After enjoying considerable success in limited over’s cricket, Watson made his debut in Test cricket in 2005, however, frequent injuries meant, he couldn’t become a mainstay in the test team.

Shane Watson’s 176 run knock against England in the fifth test in 2013 Ashes series was easily the finest test knock of his career. He has 4 centuries and 24 half-centuries to his name in test cricket.
