Shane Warne auctions his baggy green to raise funds for bushfire casualties

Australia has been ravaged by the unstoppable bush fires that have claimed over 20 lives with almost half a billion animals getting affected as well. To help spread awareness on climate change and raise funds, Aussie cricketer and former spin wizard  Shane Warne has decided to auction his baggy green Australia Test cap. One of the five Wisden cricketers of the 20th century, Warne picked up more than 1000 wickets in his international career, including 708 Test scalps.

He put up a post on his Instagram account and appealed to his fans to contribute as much as they could while adding that his baggy green cap would be auctioned. Michael Vaughan put up a $25,000 bid on Warne’s Test cap.

The spinner wrote on his post on Instagram that the bush fires had left everyone in disbelief and the impact that it has had on the stock as well as on humans can not be comprehended. He also stated that everyone should come together and contribute selflessly.

“This has to lead me to auction off my beloved baggy green cap (350) that I wore throughout my test career (when I wasn’t wearing my white floppy hat). I hope my baggy green can raise some significant funds to help all those people that are in desperate need,” Warne said.

Fox Sports Australia soon announced on their official Instagram account that the auction had crossed the $500k-mark.

“Warnie’s Baggy Green Bushfire Appeal Auction has ticked over the $500k mark”

Meanwhile, the Australian police have taken action against 183 citizens, of which it is believed that 24 set the fire intentionally. Nearly 18 million acres of land have been burnt in this year’s forest fires, including land for forests and national parks.
