West Indies’ fast bowler Shakera Selman is pretty impressed with India youngster Jemimah Rodrigues who made everyone notice her game from a young age. However, Selman thinks Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues is a really good cricketer and will go a long way.
Rodrigues recently took to Instagram and posted a picture of her with Selman when she was aged 13 and, six years on, both of them are playing at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Time has flown just a blink of an eye for Jemimah as she first time came in the limelight after scoring a double-century in a domestic game. Since then, no looking back and earned the India call-up in 2018 as well.

The pace bowler from Barbados — who made her T20I debut way back in 2008, when Rodrigues was seven — is really proud to have planted a seed in one of the world’s most talented young batters as well.
“Honestly, I just felt really great to have inspired someone and Jemimah has impressed a lot,”
the ICC quoted Shakera Selman, who also coached the kids of 7 to 11-year-olds in Barbados, as saying.
“She is a really good cricketer and it meant a lot to see that this young girl that I met ten years ago is on the world stage now and dominating. My main goal is always to inspire and help however I can. So, whenever I go home I try to help out and bring through other youngsters back in Barbados whenever I get the chance,” she further added.
Although they would not meet on the field this year in the group stage as the team India placed in Group A and West Indies in Group B. They could face each other in the knockout stages. India have won both the matches they have played so far in the tournament. In the first game, they successfully defeated the defending champions Australia by 17 runs in Sydney while in the next match, they beat Bangladesh by 18 runs in Perth.
They will take on New Zealand in their next game on Thursday. West Indies, on the other hand, won against Thailand in the first game and all set to Pakistan in their second game in Canberra.
