Spanish esports team Team Heretics has made a final agreement with the Call of Duty League (CDL) team Florida Mutineers. The CDL team from Florida will change its name to Miami Heretics as part of this deal. This happened during the seven-year celebration of Team Heretics.

The Miami Heretics CDL team will keep Vikul, who is the only Spanish player from the Mutineers. He will play alongside other Spanish players: Alejandro “Lucky” López, Adrian “MettalZ” Serrano, and Juan “JurNii” Antonio González Muñoz. These three were already in the Heretics CoD team in 2019 during the Black Ops 4 season. The new team also includes Eric “EriKBooM” Ferrer and coach Jorge “MethodZ” Bancells. However, it’s not clear yet who the starting players will be when the 2024 CDL season begins.

Many fans of competitive Call of Duty (CoD) had expected this deal to happen for a while. It was first mentioned in May by Jacob Hale of Dexerto. Over the next three months, there were uncertainties about whether the deal would actually go through. This uncertainty grew because some trademarks for the new team name were abandoned in July.

However, in the end, Team Heretics and Misfits Gaming Group, who own the Mutineers, reached an agreement. This is the second time these two groups have made a deal in just over a year. Previously, in July 2022, Misfits sold its spot in the LEC (League of Legends European Championship) to Heretics.

Team Heretics left the CoD scene after the 2019 season. This was when the competitive structure of CoD changed from the Call of Duty World League, which had 16 teams in its Pro League, to the smaller and more exclusive Call of Duty League (CDL) with 12 franchises. These franchises reportedly paid significant amounts of money to join the league.

During the four seasons of the Call of Duty League (CDL), the Florida Mutineers experienced different levels of success. Their most significant accomplishments happened in the first season of 2020. During that season, they managed to win three Home Series events and earned $175,000 at the CDL Championship. However, after that successful season, the team’s performance declined. They haven’t been able to secure a victory in any events since then, and they also didn’t qualify for the last two CDL Championship tournaments.
