Ranji Trophy 2022-23 Day 1: Karnataka puts one foot in the semis, Bengal and Andhra Pradesh ahead in their respective fixtures

The Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season is in its latter half now where the knockout matches are being played. The quarter-final matches between the eight qualified teams began today morning. All the quarter-final matches are scheduled to be played from 31st January 2023 to 4th February 2023.

In the first quarter-final match between Jharkhand and Bengal, Bengal is marginally ahead in the game after the conclusion of Day 1 of the test match here in Kolkata. They bundled out Jharkhand for 173 in just 66 overs. The day’s play was ended early due to bad light.

For Jharkhand, only Kumar Suraj scored runs as he was unbeaten on 89 after the end of Jharkhand’s innings. For Bengal, Akash Deep was the best bowler as he took 4 wickets and ended with the figures of 18-5-46-4. Mukesh Kumar also took 3 wickets in the innings.

In the match being played at Indore between Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh have put Madhya Pradesh on the backfoot as they AP have scored 262/2 runs till now and will look to bat more tomorrow. Ricky Bhui scored an unbeaten century whereas Karan Shinde will continue tomorrow from his overnight score of 83*.

Till the second session, Punjab was bowling well and had Saurashtra in trouble but Saurashtra’s tail enders did not lose hope and took their team’s score to 303 runs. Parth Bhut scored an unbeaten 111 runs and was the star of the innings. The match between Saurashtra and Punjab currently hangs in balance.

In the last quarter-final match being played in Bengaluru, Karnataka has put one foot in the semi-finals as they have shown Uttarakhand the difference between an experienced and an inexperienced side.

Karnataka first bundled out Uttarakhand for just 116 runs and then were at 123 without any loss at the end of day’s play. They are very close to booking their semi-final berth once again in the Ranji Trophy and they might as well finish this match before 4 days.
