Piatek explains his decision to move to Hertha Berlin over Man Utd

Krzysztof Piatek has revealed why he chose Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin over moving to Premier League giants Manchester United.

The Polish striker signed a long-term contract with the German side after failing to live up to the expectations from his last season’s form at AC Milan.krzysztof-paitek-to-hertha

English clubs Manchester United and Tottenham were interested in signing the prolific goalscorer, but in the end, he moved to Berlin since he felt he was needed there.

“The most important thing was the clarity of the plans the club has for me,” he said.

“We want to achieve the greatest goals together.

“As a striker, I want to score as many goals as possible for the Hertha and helping the team to move up the rankings.

“It is very important for me to start well in a new championship.

“We hope to qualify for a European competition next season.”

He also hinted that the destination as a city had something to do with it.piatek-to-hertha-berlin

“My first impressions of Berlin are really good; of course I’ve only been here a few hours. I’m excited to be able to discover the city in the future, but first I want to get myself accustomed to Hertha BSC first.

“Downtime is really important to me and it’s good to relax. That’s what I like doing the most, especially when I get to spend time with my wife and family at home and take the dog out for a walk. It relaxes me and helps me to give my best performance out on the pitch.”

No financial details were disclosed but German newspaper Bild reported Hertha will pay 22 million euros (18.6 million pounds) plus add-ons for the Poland international.

“I’m so happy that this transfer got done,” Piatek told Hertha’s club website upon his arrival.

“The way this club is going really convinced me that this was the right move for me and I’m so excited to play with my new teammates.”

The 24-year-old moved to Serie A in 2018, joining Genoa from Polish club Cracovia. He starred with the Grifone where he played for just six months but netted 19 goals in 21 games in all competitions.

His form continued at Milan for another six months, but with the start of the new season, he failed to redo what he did last season.
