On this day in 2019: World witnessed a heart-warming Wimbledon final

One year ago on this day, World number 1 tennis star Novak  Djokovic won his fifth Wimbledon title after beating tennis great Roger Federer in a five-set thriller.

 

Djokovic defeated Federer by 7-6,1-6, 7-6, 4-6,13-12 in a match that lasted more than 4 hours.

The match was decided in the fifth set as both Federer and Djokovic won 2 sets each taking all the way to the fifth set to decide the winner.

The first set was closely fought as both great players Federer and Djokovic were in no mood to let go off the momentum. Both players broke each other serves on one point, the scoreline read 6-6. However, Djokovic clinched the first set by 7-6 due to his aggressive playing style.

Federer came with all his experience in the second set and claimed that set by 6-1.

The third set played out just like the opening set and was a closely fought encounter. The set went to a tie break and eventually, Djokovic won the set by 7-6.

Federer has to win the fourth set to keep his hopes alive so he attacked early on and disrupted Djokovic serves and won the fourth set with the match going into the final set to decide the winner.

In the fifth and final set, it was all about holding the nerves as Djokovic came all prepared and took an early 4-2 lead. But Federer staged a comeback as he won two games, bringing the scoreline to 4-4.

Both the players went back and forth to bring the scoreline to 12-12, bringing spectators on the edge of their seats.

In the end, Djokovic emerged as a winner as he seals the final set by 13-12 to win his fifth Wimbledon title.

Federer and Djokovic have faced each other 17 times in a grand slam finals where Djokovic has an upper edge over Federer by 11-6.
