India captain Virat Kohli is known for smashing records and making a new one. He is all set to make another one when he will take the field against New Zealand in the third T20I game in Hamilton on Wednesday. He is on the verge of surpassing former Indian captain MS Dhoni and join the elite list. Kohli is just 25 runs away from surpassing Dhoni in the list of highest run-scorer as captain in T20Is.
Virat Kohli is currently placed at the fourth spot behind MS Dhoni (1,112), New Zealand captain Kane Williamson (1148), and South Africa captain Faf du Plessis (1,273). Kohli needs only one half-century in T20Is to become the first captain in the list as he is currently placed with du Plessis and Kane Williamson with eight fifties.
However, Kohli will also become the second captain ever to score 50 sixes as captain in T20Is – a milestone that achieved by England’s Eoin Morgan. Kohli needs seven maximums to join that list. India has registered two successive wins against New Zealand in Auckland and taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series as well.
Although New Zealand didn’t play bad as they posted more than 200 runs in the first game whereas put pressure on Indian batsmen in the second game during their chase by dismissing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli within the powerplay. However, both the games took place at the Eden Park which is known for short boundaries and that somehow cost them the game where India outplayed them with all-round performance.
“Another good performance today, especially with the ball,” said Indian captain Virat Kohli after India’s convincing win over the Kiwis. “We demanded the bowlers stood up and took control of what we wanted to do out there, and our line and lengths… was a very good feature.”
The third Twenty20 International of the five-match series will take place in Hamilton and New Zealand will surely try to bounce back in the series.
