National Sports Bill 2025: Why This Bill is Special for Indian Sports ?
The Indian Sports have seen several highs and lows in last one year and credit should be given to given to stakeholders who have worked hard in certain sports including the likes of- Hockey, Chess where players are rising to the occasions and those sports where stakeholders need to be accountable to uplift the poor development of the game which include the likes of- Football, Tennis and Many More.
Based on latest developments, National Sports Governance Bill have been passed successfully in Lok Sabha also National Anti Doping Amendment Bill have been successfully passed in Rajya Sabha based on amendments suggested by WADA(World Anti Doping Agency) based on National Anti Doping Agency.
The Main aim of the bill is to ensure accountability, transparency from all the stakeholders so that all these decisions taken by them should be reviewed whether those steps are helping players or not.
The Bill also focuses on building 360 degree ecosystem along with World Class facilities where player can nurture to wider extent.
The benefit of these bills were explained by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, where he said that despite India being one of the most populated countries in the world we have failed to win maximum medals, and other countries including the likes of Australia and USA are churning out medals in Huge numbers.

There are several federations where so far even elections are not been held on Time, be it Boxing Federation of India(BFI) or Wrestling Federation of India all these things are bound to change once this bill comes into existence.
The other thing which this bill would certainly do is make office bearers accountable for their decisions as most of the them come from political lineage and they hardly know anything about Sports and their focus have been to rule rather than taking steps to improve player’s welfare in the country.
Many Politicians who are in support of these bill have said it publicly it will be good for Indian sports as many sports startups would like to cover Indian sports and invest in them.
Recently meeting was held by Sports Ministry where Private Stakeholders were invited and they were told to invest in Sports Big time, also discussion was done to Build Rehabilitation Center around Indian Sports and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla was present in the meeting and agreed that BCCI would adopt 2 Olympic sports will work to build their rehabilitation centers.
Sports Minister also added that “India is also keenly looking to bid for 2036 Olympics for that Indian Olympic Association have already written letter to International Olympic Committee (IOC) in order to express their interest 2036 Olympics”
However he didn’t mention the list of those cities who would be eager to host the marquee event based on all reports, Ahmedabad is most likely to bid for 2036 Olympics Hosting.
Certain other things which became highlight of the National Sports Bill 2025 include:
1. All these federation would come under RTI Act(Right to Information Act) which means more public transparency.
2. No person should be more than 70 years on the last date of nomination only those persons falling between the age of 70-75 years old will be eligible based on International Charters (By Laws through Clause 4(2)(e)).
3. All those office bearers who have been in administrational position for consecutive three terms will have one year cooling off period.
4. The Executive Committee will comprise of 15 members which include 4 women and 2 sportsperson with outstanding merit should be inducted and 2 athlete commission members by Clause(4(1))
5. If the Federation is suspended for some reasons then Board/NOC committe can appoint Ad-Hoc Adminstrative body with 5 Eminent Administrators with No Conflict of Interest under Clause 11(2)-(5)).
