Based on further developments, this is 5th dog bite incident at the JLN during the championships.

“The matter was never highlighted. It was kept under wraps. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) run medical centre at JLN stadium was aware about these incidents before it was kept hidden this time it was involved with public officials so that news came out in public” said a source.

“The incident involved Meiko Okumastsu, Coach,NPC Japan, happened at 9.18 am on the JLN warm-up track, Okamatsu was seated at the warm- up track, supervising the training of her athlete, when she sustained a dog bite in the left calf posterior aspect. In case of Mwanzo case, the incident occured at 9:42 am while assisting para- athelete was warming up for 200 m track as she received injury in posterior aspect of right calf. The wound had dimensions of 2 by 2 by 1 cm and he was given treatment in accordance with anti rabies management guidelines” report further added.

The World Para Athletics Commitee organizers added that all the athletes that advisiory have been issued to local public not to feed stray dogs inside stadium.

“On August 21st 2025 a formal request was made to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) to safeguard the JLN Stadium by removing stray premises well before the start of the tournament and MCD cleared premises before the start of championships and dog catching vehicles have been stationed at the stadium from Day 1 to ensure constant vigilance and immediate response”
