Nani opens up on Sir Alex Ferguson

Former Red Devil and currently MLS player, Louis Nani opened up on legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson and his views on drunk players on New Year Eve. The winger opined that Sir Alex Ferguson least cared about the discipline of players on New Year Eve and allowed everyone to celebrate. He also said that the manager allowed players to arrive drunk or training on the next day.

Sir Alex Ferguson is always known for his disciplinary measures at Old Trafford with players who were indecent and not abiding. However, Nani mentioned that the 78-year-old English manager wasn’t that kind of person and allowed players to have enjoyment if the manager felt that the player should be let off.

“I never got in trouble,” “Nights out at the right time, if I had the next day off, for example, then I could have some fun. Or on special days like Christmas or New Year – no one in England cares about that.

Nani also said regarding the celebration of New year Eve around Old Trafford and Sir Alex’s thought on it;

“On New Year, we could even go to training drunk and the coach didn’t care about it. That’s the side of [Sir Alex] that knew how to deal with the players and have the perception to say ‘this day is special, I can’t make demands”.

“We had been playing non-stop all year long. If one day Wes Brown gets drunk, what are we going to do? It was a joy, a moment of relaxation, a different kind of training – clowning around.

Talking about his passion for night outs, Nani said;

“I won’t lie, I liked nights out. But now I avoid them because to be able to play at the highest level you have to drop the nights out and know the right time to enjoy yourself. That is basically what I do.”

Nani’s Orlando City are enjoying a season break and will be not in action till February 29 as they host Real Salt Lake in their first fixture of MLS 2020. On the other hand,  after a loss against Arsenal at Emirates, Manchester United face Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Manchester United will be aiming for an act of revenge for their quarterfinal loss against Wolves of the previous year.
