Moin-ul-Haq stadium, BCCI

Moin-ul-Haq stadium gets BCCI nod for major upgrade

The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna is set for a major makeover, thanks to the approval of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This significant development promises to transform the landscape of cricket in the state of Bihar.

The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, built in 1969, holds a special place in Bihar’s cricketing history. It has witnessed nine international matches, including a World Cup fixture in 1996. However, the decades have called for an upgrade, and that’s exactly what’s on the horizon.

The BCCI has given its official nod to the reconstruction project, as confirmed by Secretary Jay Shah in a letter to the Bihar government’s Department of Sports. This signifies the national cricket board’s commitment to developing cricket in Bihar. Jay Shah expressed his appreciation to the department and assured them that the revamped stadium will be a breeding ground for talented young cricketers in the state.

Envisioning a World-Class Facility

This green light has come at the heels of a meeting held in Mumbai where BCA president Rakesh Kumar submitted proposals concerning the reconstruction of the stadium. These plans are as follows, seemed very aggressive and laid down comprehensive plans for the change of the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium.

Think of a modern-day cricket field – one that would more than abling a team of any repute in the world. The vision goes further than the said field comprising ultra-modern and lavish five-star living quarters for the people involved. Along with the stadium plan, there are plans to have a dedicated clubhouse along with other facilities to assist the complete cricketing franchise in Patna.

Bihar’s Cricket Bigger Picture

Indeed, the vision of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium also complements the BCA’s long-term cricket developmental plans for Bihar. This year in particular the BCA obtained the stadium from the state government through a long-term lease. It thereby also means stability and will open for major investments.

At present Moin-ul-Haq Stadium is facilitating the Bihar cricket team as their home ground. It recently staged Ranji Trophy games in the 2024 edition. The Karnataka State Cricket Association sought the assistance of the BCCI for revamping the stadium and with their aid the changed stadium will be a game-changer. It will develop infrastructure to host world-class training and competition facilities for players; administrative facilities for officials, and spectators’ facilities for fans to watch the match.

The current development of this project will reach young and talented players of Bihar and other neighbouring areas. These players will have better facilities to train and get coached by masters, thus the probability of achieving their potential and joining the national cricket team.

It is not only Moin-ul-Haq Stadium that has been rebuilt; it means change and metamorphosis have happened there. It is all about developing the culture of cricket, interest, and passion in Bihar and building new talents for cricket. The BCCI and BCA need to work in unison for Bihar cricket which is sure to have a bright cricketer.
