Mahmudullah Doesn’t Think Sending Mithun Up The Order Was A Wrong Decision

The Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah doesn’t think that promoting Mohammad Mithun up the order was the reason why Bangladesh lost the third T20I against India.

Mohammad Mithun, who was playing his first match of the series, was sent to bat at no. 4 during the chase of 175 and although he stitched a good partnership with Mohammad Naim, his personal strike rate was only around a run a ball.

There were talks that sending Mithun ahead of Mushfiqur Rahim, who generally bats at no. 4 for Bangladesh, was perhaps a wrong decision.

But, Mahmudullah, while addressing the press in the aftermath of the defeat, disagreed to it. According to Mahmudullah, the partnership was more important at that point of time rather than the personal strike rate of any batsman.

And, Mithun was sent with that purpose only. He was asked to take his time and build a partnership which he did.

Mahmudullah reckons the reason why Bangladesh haven’t become a force in the shortest format of the game is because they lack power hitters.

Most of their batsmen are skillful and can only find boundaries through cricketing shots, but when sixes are needed, the team finds itself short of the power hitting potential.

Mahmudullah also thinks that the Bangladesh batsmen need to start reading the game better and understand when they have to take risks and when they have to play out a bowler.

“If I have to say about T20 format, we have a long way to go, we have to find out a lot of things. We don’t have big hitters. We have to be dependent on our skills, especially as a batting group. Our game sense needs to improve.” Mahmudullah said in the post-match press conference.

Bangladesh had taken a lead of 1-0 in the series by beating India in the first game in Delhi, but they couldn’t continue the momentum going forward and eventually lost the next two games to lose the series.
