Lo Celso Comments On How Spurs Will Fare Under Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur star Giovanni Lo Celso has said that his club needs time in order to adapt to the methods of new manager Jose Mourinho. The self-proclaimed “special one” was sensationally appointed as manager of the Lilywhites last week after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

Lo Celso told Sky Sports:”We know that it takes time when you’ve got a new coaching staff, a new head coach.

“It takes time for the team to take on board all the new ideas – we know they bring with them new ways of working, new methods, new ideas.

“The main thing is this period started with a victory initially and that gives confidence, not only to the players, but also to the coaching staff and manager as well.

“I think it will take time to really take on board the new ideas and tactics, but I think we’ve started well and that’s a positive.”

Mourinho has so far started his tenure in charge of the North Londoners on a positive note. He led the club to a 3-2 win against West Ham last weekend and followed that up by defeating Olympiacos in the Champions League this week.  Mourinho has promised that he will bring passion to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has roped in an exciting set of coaching staff which includes 30-year-old assistant Joao Sacremento from Lille.

Some positives have already been seen since Mourinho was appointed as the club’s manager. One of the major things seen so far is that Dele Alli appears to have improved in terms of form. The youngster struggled during the early parts of the season under Pochettino and even subsequently ended up losing his place in the England squad. If Alli manages to start playing a positive brand of football again, he should be able to make the England Euro 2020 squad with ease.

The Lilywhites defending however needs drastic improvement. Even though the club beat West Ham, they showed defensive fragility towards the end of the game. When the score was 2-0 in favor of Spurs, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld committed comical errors which allowed the Hammers to score two late goals and make the score look more respectable than it should have been.

Hopefully Mourinho has improved his people skills. One of the reasons why his last three stints (with Man United, Chelsea and Real Madrid) ended on bitter terms is because he ended up losing the change rooms.
