Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win/loss record in IPL playoffs
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are showing their class in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They have qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs as table toppers and this is the 8th time in IPL history that KKR have made it into the knockout stages. As the Kolkata-based franchise has a rich history in the IPL playoffs, let’s check their win/loss records in the knockout round.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have played a total of 13 matches in the IPL playoffs. They have won 8 matches and lost 5 games. This translates to a winning percentage of around 61.5%, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure. However, they also have gone through setbacks.

Their first face-off into the playoffs came in 2011, where they fell short in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians. However, the following year saw winning the title, defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final by 5 wickets. This marked the beginning of a successful period for KKR, as they went on to win the title again in 2014, this time against Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) by 3 wickets.

- 2012 – Won by 5 wickets against Chennai Super Kings – Winner
- 2014 – Won by 3 wickets against Punjab Kings – Winner

- 2018 – Lost by 14 runs to Sunrisers Hyderabad – Qualifier 2
- 2021 – Lost by 27 runs to Chennai Super Kings- Final
Unfortunately, the years that followed saw KKR experience some heartbreak. They reached the playoffs in 2016, 2017, and 2018 but fell short in the Eliminator or Qualifier 2 stages. Their most recent appearance came in the final of IPL 2021, where they were edged out by Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs.
In the 2014 final, their batting lineup chased down a mammoth target of 200 runs against Punjab Kings in just 19.3 overs. This feat remains the highest successful chase in an IPL final.
Bowling performances have also played a crucial role in KKR’s playoff success. Sunil Narine, the mystery spinner, holds the record for most wickets for KKR in the playoffs with 10 scalps. His ability to deceive batsmen has often provided KKR with crucial breakthroughs. Veterans like Piyush Chawla and Umesh Yadav have also contributed significantly with their wicket-taking power.
In the IPL 2024, KKR boasts a strong top-order batting featuring the likes of Phil Salt, Sunil Narine, and Venkatesh Iyer. But now Salt has gone for his national duty with England. Their middle-order also have strong line-up with the likes of skipper Shreyas Iyer, youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi, explosive Andre Russell and Rinku Singh. Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana spearhead their pace bowling, while the responsibility of the spin department falls on the shoulders of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine.
As KKR gear up for their upcoming playoff encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), they will try to win the match and enter the final without any hassle. Their ability to rise to the occasion and deliver under pressure makes them a team to watch in the ongoing IPL 2024 season.
