"Kane Williamson should be mentioned in the same bracket as Martin Crowe and Richard Hadlee" - says former Kiwi pacer Dion Nash!

New Zealand Batter Kane Williamson has reached a different level of batting after relinquishing Captaincy from the national team and he should be mentioned alongside the likes of Kiwi Legends Martin Crowe and Richard Hadlee says former Blackcaps Pacer Dion Nash.

The 51-year-old has more than 100 International wickets for New Zealand and played his last ODI match way back in 2002. Nash mentioned that he has been left impressed with Kane Williamson’s transition as a Batsman after leaving the captaincy role last year.

For a fact Williamson as the captain carried the New Zealand to back-to-back finals of ICC tournaments. Under his captaincy, the Kiwis reached 3 major finals but came out victorious in only one of them. In 2019, Williamson’s side lost to hosts England in the ICC Cricket World Cup final in a very heartbreaking manner.

After the match came out with no conclusion in regulation time, the Super over was also tied but England became World champions all because of amassing more boundaries than New Zealand. Then 2 years later, Williamson delivered New Zealand their first ever ICC trophy after beating India in the World Test Championship final in 2021 and later that year, the Blackcaps reached the T20 World cup final but once again lost to hosts Australia.

But all of that does not over shadow what Kane Williamson’s enigma and class. During New Zealand’s last 2 Test series at home, Williamson has been a very important player. He scored back-to-back 3 Centuries (132 against England and 121 & 215 against Sri-Lanka).

Dion Nash by keeping all of that on mind said – “Williamson has taken it to the next level. You look at the Richard Hadlees and Martin Crowe. Kane is now in that echelon of cricketers. He’s given up the captaincy – given it up or had it taken away, either way it doesn’t matter – but he’s doubled down on his performance, which speaks volumes of the man.
