Jamie Vardy becomes first player for Leicester City to win Premier League Golden Boot Award

Jamie Vardy has become the first player to win the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 23 goals for Leicester City in 2019-20 season.

He got close competition from Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (22), Southampton’s Danny Ings (22) and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling (20) in order to bag this significant individual award.

He also created one more record as he became the oldest player at the age of 33 in the Premier League history to clinch this trophy after surpassing Didier Drogba who received this award at the age of 32 when he led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2009-10 season with 29 goals.

Leicester City Manager, Brendan Rodgers talked about Vardy and his achievement as a player for the club where he said “It’s a wonderful individual achievement, we wouldn’t be where we are without his quality and goals. He’s a joy to work with, has a great mentality and has such quality. It’s a huge accolade and we’re all delighted for him.”

“When we go into Europe next season, at whatever level that he is, again he will be able to demonstrate that.

I said when I came in he’s a world-class striker and thankfully next year he’ll have the chance to show that on the European stage.” He added.

Rodgers also praised Vardy for his dedication and fitness. He said that people think he is a very funny guy but when it comes to football, he is very serious and focused.

“We all want him to finish as the highest scorer, which would be a remarkable achievement considering his age and everything.

For me, the age doesn’t really come into it. He’s absolutely fit as anything.”  Rodgers concluded.
