Is Esports getting dropped from Commonwealth Games 2026? Let’s find out in detail

The Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham had esports as a pilot project, and it was a huge success. However, the 2026 edition of this major event will not feature this well-liked popular ecosystem.

The scalability of this well-known game has been severely harmed by this, and India would suffer greatly as a result of this decision given that the DOTA 2 squad won the bronze medal in the previous competition.

According to sources in many media sites, the increasing number of doping cases in several sports disciplines is the cause of this game’s exclusion from the 2026 edition.

However, many people believe that excluding Esports due to doping is something hard to understand.

“We have always witnessed strict action being taken against the concerned player/team. However, this is the first time that a sport is being barred due to a few bad apples. Esports still has a long way to go in terms of growth and infrastructure, but it’s a little difficult to believe that doping could be the primary reason,”

“The growth of eSports has been nothing short of a Saturn V rocket that took the man to the moon. With close to half a billion people participating in and viewing eSports, which led to eSports being part of international sporting competition, the news that eSports was being dropped from the event has come as a surprise.”Vidur Naik, Managing Partner, TCM Platform said.

The founder and CEO of Revenant Esports, Rohit Jagasia, emphasised that sufficient infrastructure, training facilities, and a specific attention on the physical and mental health of professional Esports players are all necessary for the growth of Esports in India.

“An ecosystem only grows when every stakeholder works together and the vision should be aligned to make it a sport in all the multi-nation sports events.”

“There is a lot more to it which we hope to know in the coming future. We have to take this decision as a major setback and take the learning out of it that we have to build a proper program for our esports athletes so that they can represent the country at these prestigious events and bring laurels for the country.”

However, Esports will still be included in 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou China and let’s see how things will unfold from here.
