IND Vs AUS : Mark Waugh isn't very appreciative of Virat Kohli despite his 186 at Ahmedabad!

The latest edition of the Border-Gavaskar trophy once again ended in favor of India as Australia suffered their 4th consecutive BGT series loss by the margin of 2-1. India had a must win game in their hand in the final test at Ahmedabad for their ICC WTC Final hopes but the match eventually ended in a draw.

But all thanks to WTC defending champions New Zealand, India secured their 2nd back-to-back WTC final appearance. India had a lot of positives to pick from this particular series but one of the main story was Virat Kohli’s 186 in India’s 2nd innings.

The 34-year-old ended a 3-year-old Century less drought in Red ball cricket as he smacked an outstanding 186 runs off 364 balls which ensured India will not be losing the Test but settle for a Draw. After his century, he gathered a lot of appreciation but former Australian legend Mark Waugh is not having it.

Waugh’s criticism on Indian pitches is nothing new and now he has launched up on Virat Kohli. Unlike another Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who backed Kohli to bounce back, Mark Waugh thinks the Indian batter is still miles away from being at his best.

Instead of supporting the batter to end his drought, Waugh said that although his intent was spot on, he still played a few risky shots but due to his patience, Kohli was able to score an elusive hundred. Waugh finished off by saying that the drought might be over but Kohli is far away from his best self at least in the longest format of the game.

The drought’s over. The gates have opened. You could tell right from the get-go he meant business. He played very few risky shots. He was so patient, just picked the bowling off. I don’t think he’s at his pure best at the moment, as far as his Test career is concerned but it just shows you his class.” – said Mark Waugh via Fox Cricket.ย
