IND Vs AUS : Find out what helped Shubman Gill to come out of an "Unproductive phase"!

One of the major reasons behind India’s outstanding response to Australia’s first inning lead of 480 runs is none other than Punjab born Batter Shubman Gill. The young opening batter led from the front right from the start and scored a brilliant knock of and possibly a match winning 128 runs.

On Day 4, India have put down a large amount of the trail but there is still a lot of work needed to be done. But the main focus is on Shubman Gill who has been outstanding as an opener for India lately. His form in white ball cricket was on full fledged display earlier this year and in the 4th test, Gill has sent a clear message that he is here to stay.

During the Border-Gavaskar Cup 2020–21, Gill played his first Test match. With 259 runs at an impressive 51.8, he made an impression at the summit. As a result of this start, he was included in the India Test lineup but lost his spot after getting hurt during the 2021 England trip.

Since then, he has been in and out of the team. However, in the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Indore, he eventually made a comeback. He was chosen instead of the ineffective starter KL Rahul. Gill further discussed about the phase he had in his career when he was unable to score big for the team.

The 23-year-old is mature enough to know that chances and opportunities will come but training and practicing is the key. “If you are doing the right things, you’ll get your chance, and it’s just about performing. I was just doing my practice and training. Getting chances is not up to me. It’s up to the team management. I did all that was in my control.”

About his unproductive phase Gill said – “There was a phase where I got four 40s or 50s. Right now in England, in one innings I scored 20 (17) and not much after that. So I felt that I was being over defensive after getting set. Being too cautious, and worrying that I need to convert this start into something big, I was putting too much pressure on myself. That isn’t my game. When I get set, I catch my rhythm.”
