ICC Women’s World Cup: New Zealand reveals host cities, Christchurch to host the final

The preparations for the next year’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has started and New Zealand has unveiled the name of the cities that would host the games for the upcoming tournament.

A total of six cities will get a chance to host games and it includes cities like Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, Dunedin, and Tauranga.

The finals of the star-studded event will take inside the Hagley Oval in Christchurch while all the matches on the first weekend of the tournament will be played in Auckland.

Speaking about the tournament and the venues, the CEO of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, Andrea Nelson, noted that she was really excited to unveil the names of the host cities and believes that all the venues will provide World-class amenities to the players as well as the spectators.

She further stated that the goal was to ensure an amazing tournament and these venues will surely provide the viewers an enthralling World Cup.

Our goal was to ensure all 31 matches will be played at the best venues, encompassing a geographic spread that ensured as many Kiwi sports fans as possible get to engage with the tournament,” Nelson said.

Indian skipper Mithali Raj was also present during the time of announcement and explained that it is always a pleasure to play in a beautiful country like New Zealand.

The captain of the White Ferns, Sophie Devine was also present along with teammates like Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr.

The highly-anticipated tournament will feature 31 games between February 6 and March 7.

An Australian team led by Meg Lanning has already qualified by topping the ICC Women’s Championship table with 17 wins out of 18 games.

The top 4 teams on the table will automatically qualify for the tournament. As of now, apart from hosts New Zealand and Australia, teams like England, India, and Pakistan are in line to qualify for the biggest tournament of cricket.

This will be the second biggest event for Women’s Cricket after this year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Australia between February 21 and March 8.

The final will played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
