History of ICC Women’s World Cup

Cricket is the international and is the most sought-after game of every person. There are millions of cricket fans across the globe who never likes to miss watching a single cricket match that is commenced globally. Till 1973, the cricket tournaments were played by men, but in 1973, the first international and prestigious women’s cricket tournament was held in England. Since then, this has become the most awaited cricket tournament by men and women fans equally across the globe.  In this match, Australia has come to the finals 8 times out of 10 final matches and has lifted the world cup for 6 times in the women’s 20 world cup history where England has won 3 matches. The first world cup match was held in England and the venue for the next ICC women’s world cup is going to be finalized soon. The first world cup was clinched by England by 20 points and the Australian cricket team has lost by 17 points and became the runner-up of first ever Women’s world cup held in 1973. 2017 Women’s cricket world cup: This world cup was held in England in the year 2017. This is the eleventh world cup that has garnered a huge fan base. This was the third time that England is hosting the event. The participants of the world cup are fully professional teams from across the globe. Out of all the teams, eight teams are qualified to play this world cup. The final match was won by England with 9 runs difference with India. This is the most amazing match that has glued and kept the cricket ardent fans at the edge of the seat.

2013 Women’s world cup: This world cup was held in India in 2013. This is the 10th world cup that has gained a huge fan base to watch the women’s cricket matches. There are four teams who had qualified to play the matches, including England, Australia, New Zealand and India, where Sri Lanka, West Indies, Pakistan and South Africa have joined the team later for getting qualified in 2011 Women’s world cup, which was held in Bangladesh. Three paces from England, namely, Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole and from Megan Schutt and Holly Ferling and Jhulan Goswami from India have made their names in the bowling charts. The sixes that are hit by a few women’s cricket stars are on par with their male counterparts. In this match, West Indies have won three matches by winning over Australia and New Zealand for the first time by hitting super sixes. Megan Schutt from Australia has remained as the top wicket-taker who has successfully taken 15 wickets in 7 matches and Suzie Bates from New Zealand has become the top run scorer by making 407 runs in 7 matches.

2009 Women’s ICC World cup: This match was hosted by Australia and England has lifted the world cup. The teams are divided into two groups where each group play against each other. The finalists of this world cup are New Zealand and England. The top three teams are qualified for super sixes in which both the England and New Zealand teams have won all the matches except losing one match each in super sixes. At the beginning of the tournament, Australia has lost the first match with New Zealand and was also lost to India. However, in the third match, it bounced back by beating India with three wickets. Sri Lanka and South African teams have failed to win matches in this tournament. The highest runs of over 324 were made by Sarah Taylor of England team in 7 matches, whereas the highest wicket-taker was also from the England team, i.e., Laura Marsh who took 16 wickets in 7 matches which is a big thing.

2005 ICC Women’s World Cup: The tournament was hosted by South African and the winner of this world cup match is the kangaroo women. The finalist in this match is the Indian team. The Indian women’s team has become the favorite of all with the way they are playing on the field. Australia has won over five matches out of seven matches. Australia has entered the semifinals by beating England. The highest runs are made by Charlotte Edwards of the Australian team by 280 runs in the seven matches whereas the highest wickets are taken by Neetu David of India. She took 20 wickets in seven matches and created a history. She has become the favorite player in the India team of many die-hard cricket fans.

2000 ICC Women’s World cup: The seventh prestigious world cup match was held in New Zealand and the team that has lifted the world cup trophy is also New Zealand. This tournament has 8 teams who are playing against each other. In addition to New Zealand and Australia, two other teams that have made into finals are India and South Africa. The top scorer of this world cup tournament was Karen Rolton who made 393 runs in 9 matches whereas the top wicket-taker in this match is Charmaine Mason from Australia who took 17 wickets in 8 matches.

1997 ICC Women’s world cup: This is the sixth edition of world cup match which was held in India and the match was won by the Australian team. This edition was played by 11 teams for 50overs each time. With fierce competition from each team, England, Australia, New Zealand and India have made it to semi-finals. Australia has won over India by 19 runs whereas New Zealand won by 20 runs with England. The top scores of the match are Debbie Hockley of New Zealand who made 456 runs in 7 matches and Katrina Keenan of New Zealand who took 13 wickets in 7 matches.

1993 ICC Women’s World Cup: This match was held in England and the team who won this tournament is also England. There are eight teams who have participated in this competition with two new teams who have made their debut into this competition, i.e. Denmark and West Indies. The two teams that have entered finals are New Zealand and England. The highest runs are made by Janette Brittin of England in the eight matches are 410 whereas the highest wickets are taken by Karen Smithies of England and Julie Harris of New Zealand with every 15 wickets in eight matches.

1998 ICC Women’s World cup: This is hosted by Australia and the team that has lifted the world cup is also Australia. India has not participated in this tournament. There are other two nations that have made their debut in this tournament. These include the Netherlands and Ireland. The first fight was between Australia and England. Out of all the matches, Australia has won 7 and lost just one with England. The top scores of the match were Lindsay Reeler from Australia team who made 448 runs in eight matches, whereas the top wicket-taker is Lyn Fullston who is also from Australia taking 16 wickets in 8 matches.

1982 ICC Women’s World cup: This match was hosted in New Zealand and Australia has clichéd the world cup. In this tournament, each participated team has played 12 matches. Out of 12 matches, Australia has won 11 matches. The top scorer in this tournament is Janette Brittin of England team who made 391 runs in 12 matches, whereas the highest wickets are taken by Lyn Fullston of Australian team with the wickets count of 23 in 12 matches.

1978 ICC Women’s World cup: This time India has hosted the tournament and Australia has lifted the world cup. There are only four teams who participated in this tournament, including India, New Zealand, England and Australia. The top scorer is an Australian player, Margaret Jennings, who made 127 runs in 3 matches whereas the highest wicket-taker is also an Australian player, Sharyn Hill, who took 7 wickets in 3 matches.

1973 ICC Women’s World Cup: This first tournament was played in England and the World cup is also lifted by England. There are seven teams who took part in this tournament. The highest runs are made by the England player, Enid Bakewell who made 264 runs in 6 matches, whereas the highest wickets are taken by the Young England player, Rosalind Heggs with the wickets count of 12 in 6 matches.
