I had a strong feeling that I would win India the World Cup semi-final but that was my ego talking, Says Virat Kohli

More than four months have passed since India lost the World Cup semi-final game against New Zealand and thereby dumping themselves out of the World Cup. A time when strong emotions were widely felt, India’s hopes of winning their third World Cup title vanished because of one bad game.

Recalling the memories of the past, Virat Kohli opens up on the heartbreaking loss, saying that he too got affected by that loss and would have wanted to win that game for his country.

“Do I get affected by failures. Yes, I do. Everyone does. At the end of the day, I know my team would need me. I had the feeling so strong in my heart that I am going to come not out and make India go through that tough phase [in the semi-final]. But then again, maybe that was my ego talking because how can you predict something like that? You can only have a strong feeling or maybe it was a strong desire to do something like that,” Kohli was quoted as saying to India Today.

Much like all Indian greats, a defeat is something which is hard to accept for the Indian captain. Virat Kohli believes in giving his everything on the field and does whatever it takes to get his team over the line.

The India captain asserted that he wants to leave behind a legacy which other would follow.

“I hate losing. I don’t want to walk out and say I could have done this. When I step out on the field, it’s a privilege. When I walk out, I want to have zero energy. We want to leave behind a legacy that future cricketers will say we want to play like that,” Kohli further added.

Having a registered 2-0 victory against Bangladesh in the recently concluded Test series, India will now play against West Indies in three T-20s and as many as ODIs starting from 6th December 2019.
