One of the top Counter-Strike teams in recent years, Heroic, has decided to bench their enigmatic captain, Casper “cadiaN” Møller, just a few weeks into the CS2 era. Heroic made this announcement, citing a “mutual decision due to differing visions for the team’s future.”

CadiaN, who has led Heroic since late 2019, has been highly regarded as a top player, serving as both an in-game leader and primary AWPer. During the past three years, particularly in the era of Counter-Strike during the COVID-19 pandemic, Heroic established themselves as one of the premier teams in CS, effectively surpassing Astralis as the leading Danish team.

In an interview with Dexerto, cadiaN revealed that he had wanted to implement some changes within Heroic as they transitioned into CS2. However, there were disagreements within the team regarding the direction they should take. CadiaN believed these changes could have propelled Heroic to greater heights, similar to how previous roster adjustments, such as adding refrezh and sjuush, eventually proved successful despite initial criticism. He also mentioned that reaching a compromise with Heroic did not meet his expectations.
Despite this move, it seems that cadiaN’s journey in competitive Counter-Strike is far from over. He expressed a strong determination to continue competing and has been dedicating a significant amount of time to CS2. His future plans include considering options such as potentially joining an international team or exploring different roles, moving away from the combination of in-game leader and AWPer that has brought him success.
Given the timing of this decision, it’s unlikely that cadiaN will participate in IEM Sydney, which marks the unofficial tier-one debut of CS2. However, there is still ample time until the PGL Copenhagen Major, an event that has long eluded cadiaN throughout his career in CS:GO.
