maxwell injured due to elbow injury

glenn maxwell elbow injuryAustralian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series which begins against South Africa later this month. The cricketer will not be able to take the field as he needs to undergo elbow surgery from an injury he sustained during the Big Bash League. All-rounder D’Arcy Short will replace Maxwell for the series. Short is known for his wrist-spinning action, which results in important wickets during the game.

Australian national selector Trevor Hohns could not hide his disappointment in not seeing Maxwell play for the team as he expressed his emotions by saying,Trevor Hohns on maxwell

“We are disappointed to lose Glenn this close to the tour as we were looking forward to welcoming him back to the national side in both the 20- and 50-over formats after his break during the summer.” He further explained the situation by adding,

“Unfortunately, the pain he has experienced in the elbow in the latter stages of the Big Bash League increased over the weekend and he will have surgery immediately to rectify the situation.”

However, Hohns expressed his hope in Short by praising his all-rounder abilities and stating that he trusts the ambitious cricketer will make a lasting name for himself during the course of this series.maxwell

“An opportunity has now presented itself for D’Arcy and we’re confident he’ll make the most of whatever opportunities come his way in South Africa. Like Glenn, D’Arcy is an inventive, hard-hitting batsman who offers a handy spin-bowling option. We have no doubt he will make a positive contribution to the squad.”

Glenn Maxwell has stayed away from cricket since October 2019 following issues with his mental health.

He said, “Representing Australia is the highest honour in cricket and something I cherish. I was not confident that I could perform at the international level with my elbow in its current state and have decided to undergo surgery straight away to fix the issue.”
