Gautam Gambhir, took to ‘X’ and wrote, “I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!.”

The announcement comes at a crucial time, just weeks ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gambhir’s decision not to contest from Delhi in the upcoming elections has raised eyebrows, indicating a significant shift in his priorities.

A stalwart in Indian cricket, Gambhir has left an indelible mark on the sport, playing a pivotal role in India’s World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) set to kick off next month, Gambhir’s focus on his cricketing commitments is understandable.

In addition to his illustrious cricketing career, Gambhir has also made a name for himself as a successful commentator. Currently serving as the mentor for Shahrukh Khan’s IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, Gambhir continues to contribute to the sport both on and off the field.

While Gautam Gambhir’s decision may come as a surprise to some, it underscores the importance of balancing professional commitments. He will be focusing on the KKR’s Indian Premier League campaign.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP emerged victorious in all seven seats in Delhi. However, with Gambhir stepping back from the fray, the political landscape in the capital may see a shift as the elections draw near.

The left-hand batter was a key player of the Indian teams that secured the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and ICC Cricket ODI World Cup in 2011. Gambhir made 10,324 runs at an average of 38.95, with 20 centuries and 63 half-centuries in 242 matches for India. His individual best score is 206.

Gautam Gambhir’s request to be relieved of his political duties marks a significant development in both the political and sporting spheres. As he embarks on this new chapter, fans eagerly await his return to the cricket field, while political observers speculate on the implications of his decision for the upcoming elections.
