Gary Sobers dances to Hindi song; video goes viral

Whenever there is a discussion on who is the greatest all-rounder in the history of the game, Sober’s name is almost always at the top-most echelon.

Sir Garfield Sobers, who is regarded to be one of the greatest cricketers who have ever graced the game, remains probably the most memorable cricketer of all time. Sobers is still regarded as one of the best all-rounders cricket has ever produced, as his name ranks among the top of the board to date.

Sobers was known to do almost anything on the cricket field. There was no ball he could not bowl, and there was no delivery he could not hit. Quick and nimble, his team could rely on him to keep wickets, play spin deliveries, and bowl medium pace. He was a gun fielder and also a champion with the willow.

During his heyday, Sobers held the record for the highest score in Test Cricket when he scored 365 runs against Pakistan in Jamaica, 1958. He remained unbeaten for almost four decades before the record was broken by his own countryman, Brian Lara, against England in 1994.

Sobers’ talents are not only limited to the field, but they also extend off the field. A viral video on Twitter shows the 83-year old matching his steps with the beat in a remix version of ‘Jiya Ho Jiya Kuchh Bol Do” — a song sung by Mohammed Rafi for the movie ‘Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai.’

The video shows an Indian wedding taking place in Barbados, and Sobers shaking a leg to Indian melodies along with a number of other people who were in attendance.

Sobers has a long connection with India. He dated former model Anju Mahendru in 1966 when the latter was just 17 years old. According to the news of the time, Mahendru had called off her engagement with Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna to pursue the relationship. Unfortunately, the engagement could not last long, as their career and the long distance between them played a pivotal role in breaking off the match.
