Former English Captain Alastair Cook Receives Knighthood from Queen

Alastair Cook

Former England Captain and England all-time leading run scorer Alastair Cook received a knighthood from the Queen for his monumental services to the nation. For all our fans, who don’t have inkling about Knighthood, it is an honorary title given by the King or Queen of the United Kingdom to the person for his exemplary services to the nation.

The person is awarded the title of “Sir” before his actual name. For example, Alastair Cook will now be called Sir Alastair Cook.

He is the leading test run scorer of all time for England. He has scored 12,472 runs in 161 test matches at a staggering average of 45.4, which also includes 33 test hundreds and 57 fifties. The English legend has also played 92 ODI and scored 3204 runs with the help of 5 hundred and 19 fifties.

He bid adieu to international cricket in a spanking fashion after scoring his 33 test century against India at the Oval.

ECB (English Cricket Board) chairman Collin Graves congratulated Alastair cook by stating ““Alastair Cook has given so much to English cricket and I’m delighted that he has received this honour,” said ECB chairman Colin Graves. “It’s a fitting tribute to a man who has led with distinction on and off the pitch ever since he made his England debut.

“The statistics across that time tell the story of his special ability – as do the winners’ medals and Ashes trophies – but he is also someone who’s been a great role model for our sport.

“We’re very fortunate to have had Alastair in English cricket and we’re very grateful for his contributions to the game.”
