Former CSK spinner retires from cricket

Goa spinner and former Chennai Super Kings player Shadab Jakati has announced his retirement from cricket with immediate effect. The slow left arm orthodox spinner also played for Indian Premier League teams like the now-defunct Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He took to Twitter to announce his decision.

“Just announced my retirement from all forms of cricket. Even though I have not been playing much over the last 1 year,it has been one of the harder things I have done in my life.Thank you @BCCI @goacricket11 with sincere gratitude 4 making me live my dream for the last 23 years,” tweeted Jakati.

“At this juncture as I look back at my career I wish to thank with sincere gratitude my family,friends who have stood by me all the while. @BCCI #GCA, senior cricketers, all my fellow teammates,support staff with whom I have spent moments which I shall cherish all my life,” he further tweeted.

 

The player picked up 275 wickets from 94 First Class games. He made his FC debut way back in 1998 1999 for Goa and played his last FC game against Punjab in October 2017. He, however, could not play for the Indian team.

In the cash rich IPL, Jakati played 59 games and picked up 47 wickets with best figures of 4 for 22. He averaged 30.85 in the event and gave away runs at an economy rate of just over 8. He finished with a strike rate of 23.08 with the ball, picking up two 4-wicket hauls. The last time that Jakati played in the IPL was in 2017.
