Former Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins runs into Kyrie Irving “Again”

kyrie-irving-netsMore often than not, players and the pundits covering the sports are legally bound by contracts to interact with the media and voice their opinions. But the job is more demanding for the pundits, for they have to speak continuously and incessantly, before, during and after the match. But what they can control is the words they choose to speak.

Kendrick Perkins is one such personality who doesn’t hold back from expressing his thoughts. But the one player he has run into a zillionth time is Kyrie Irving. Of course, Irving and Perkins are associated with the Boston Celtics, and that’s the reason for Perkins’ hatred for Irving, who thinks he didn’t do enough while at TD Garden last season and didn’t respect the jersey and the time he spent with the franchise.

kendrick perkinsPerkins’ latest criticism of Irving came during the Boston Celtics match against Houston Rockets at Toyota Center. He was working as an analyst on the NBC Sports Boston broadcast and said that he was impressed with the number of Greens fans in Houston and tore into Irving for not embracing his time in Boston.

“When I was playing for the Celtics I never really focused on the crowd or the fans. I was so locked in,” he said.

“Now that I’m an analyst, I’m retired, it’s amazing how many Celtics fans there are around the world. “Do you hear these chants right now? Let’s go Celtics. And Kyrie Irving didn’t want to play here. Every time I think of that guy, I want to throw up.”

This was not the first time Perkins criticized the former Cleveland Cavaliers star and the way things are going it looks like it may not be the last instance as well. Perkins, who spent 8 years with the Greens from 2003-11, winning the Championship in 2008, said back in June that he “lost all respect” for the Brooklyn Nets guard.

That said, Irving is not the only player Perkins has taken aim at since he became a pundit. Earlier in the season, when Russell Westbrook returned to Oklahoma City Thunder for the first time as a Houston Rockets player and got the standing ovation, Perkins took to Twitter and labelled Westbrook as “Mr. Thunder.”

That beefed-up Tweet didn’t go down well with many NBA pundits and experts alike, they, as well as most NBA fans, think that Durant is the best player ever to don OKC jersey.
