Football News Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's comments on Man City in 2020 resurfaces!

English Premier League champions Manchester City came under boiling hot water a few days ago following the PL charged them of breaching at least 100 financial rules and regulations for a span of a decade. According to the EPL’s report, City ever since the takeover by Abu Dhabi United group, constantly broke the League’s Financial regulations.

All of those breaches could reportedly strip Manchester City off their PL titles from 2011 to 2018. The Punishment doesn’t stop there, they could be relegated, fined and also expelled for the English top-flight only if they are found guilty.

The Club on the other hand after getting aware of such allegations issued a statement which said that they are shocked by these claims and they will fight against it in order to end the narrative once and for all. Its not for the first time that Man City have been accused of breaking Financial fair play rules.

UEFA in 2020 imposed a 2-year-ban to the EPL outfit alongside a hefty fine. However, City took the case to the Court of sport arbitration and as a result the fine was lowered and the ban no longer existed.

Amidst of all the dark clouds over City, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s comments about the club in 2020 has resurfaced. During Laureus Awards in 2020, Wenger spoke upon UEFA’s decision to ban City saying – “I think this is a deep question, sport is to win by respecting the rules, that’s what it is all about. We celebrate the best in every sport, but we want to know that they respect the rules.”

The 73-year-old Frenchman who is currently serving as FIFA’s Chief of Global football development cracked a joke during the awards saying “City bought all of my players/targets”.

The former EPL winner with Arsenal had no sympathy whatsoever for the blue half of Manchester as he further added that – “If there is no respect for the rules, then it is not real sport so I think that is what’s most important, the rules exist so you have to respect them. Once you go into a competition, you sign in by agreeing to accept the rules.”
