Everything you need to know about English Premier League's charges on Manchester City!

Reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City have come under boiling hot water once again as the English Premier League has charged them with more than 90 offences. The League announced on February 6th that the club did not comply with PL’s obligations and there could be severe consequences.

Last year, the club won its 7th English Premier League trophy and this year they are vying for their 8th and 3rd PL title in a row. Since Pep Guardiola took charge of the club in 2016, City have become an extremely dominant side but the latest set of allegations against them could harm their current season.

Manchester City was the subject of a Premier League investigation into its finances for four years until it was revealed on February 6 that the team had allegedly broken the law on numerous instances.

Man City has essentially been charged with obtaining an unfair advantage over rival teams while being a part of the City Football Group. There can be severe penalties for doing it. But this story is far from over, the chronology of possible outcomes for Manchester City, including potential sanctions for alleged financial rule violations.

What went wrong with Manchester City?

According to the Premier League report, City have reportedly breached at least 100 PL rules between 2009-2018 following Abu Dhabi United Group’s takeover. They allegedly misled regulators regarding the Premier League’s earnings, including sponsorship money and running expenditures, by failing to submit appropriate financial information to the league.

There are alleged anomalies in the salaries paid to Manchester City’s manager Roberto Mancini between 2009 and 2013, as well as to a number of players between 2010 and 2016. These salaries must be reported to the league. There are also allegations that from 2015 to 2018, Manchester City violated Premier League rules regarding sustainability and profitability.

Meanwhile, the PL champions have hit back at the allegations saying the club is extremely shocked to receive this piece of information and demands for an Independent panel to investigate this case.

“Manchester City is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with. The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.”

“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.” – the club added.

However, if City are found guilty then the club will be handed with severe punishments which includes – points deduction, relegation and their PL titles from that period will be stripped.
