Wriddhiman Saha reckons the fast bowlers will have the conditions in their favour in the upcoming day-night test match at Eden Gardens.
Saha recently took part in a day-night club game where the pink balls were used and the Indian wicketkeeper revealed that the fast bowlers got a lot of swing in the last session under lights.
However, the pink balls which were used in that game were manufactured by Kookaburra, while the balls to be used in the Eden Gardens test match will be manufactured by SG.
According to Saha, the problem with the pink balls from a batsman’s point of view is they are not easy sightable in “twilight”.
They can be sighted when it’s bright and sunny and they can be sighted when the floodlights take total effects, but when the sun is just going down and the floodlights are in the process of taking effects, sighting becomes an issue.
Another problem with the pink balls is that they lose their colour once they get old and that causes sighting hindrance as well.
“Yes, sighting was a bit of a problem once the ball got old and dirty. Especially during the twilight period, it can be challenging.”, Saha was quoted saying by the Times of India.
When asked about the dew factor, Saha admitted that the dew is likely to be there at Eden Gardens as the winter is approaching.
While Saha recently got to play with the pink ball, most of the other members of the Indian squad have no experience of playing with the pink ball. Saha said he would be discussing a few things regarding the pink ball with his teammates once he gets to meet them.
Saha is expected to be in India’s playing XI for the Eden Gardens test match. Although Rishabh Pant is also there in the Indian squad for the India vs Bangladesh test series, Saha is the first choice wicketkeeper of the team at the moment.
