David Warner withdraws his participation from the inaugural edition of “The Hundred”

Prioritizing his three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, Australian national team’s ace batsman, David Warner has opted out of the inaugural edition of ‘The Hundred’. He was drafted by the Southampton-based Southern Brave last October.

As per the information provided on the Australian website WAtoday, the opener’s manager, James Erskine spoke against the speculations that it wasn’t the horrific COVID-19 pandemic which evoked this decision by the cricketer but the fact that the ODI series was clashing with the 100-ball tournament organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board ltd that elicited this response.

The Hundred league is scheduled to commence on 17 July 2020 and will last up to 15 August, on the other hand, the ODI series against Zimbabwe would roll out in August. The ODI series will form a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-22.

But it goes without saying that because of latch put on the sports world by the coronavirus outbreak, many more players may follow suit but pulling out of ‘The Hundred’ league. Big players like Steve Smith and Andre Russell are part of the men’s tournament.

After the success of the England and Wales, Cricket Cricket Board (ECB) administrated professional league in the last season, the organization was set to develop it into a revolutionary project but the turn of events in 2020 may cause a great hindrance to their goals.
