The scoring system in BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) tournaments has undergone a significant overhaul, catching the attention of avid gamers. The latest update reduces the points awarded for achieving a chicken dinner from 15 to 10, while the rule of earning 1 point per elimination remains unchanged. This adjustment has fueled a surge in aggression during esports matches, as teams prioritizing eliminations find themselves at the top of the points table. In this article, we delve into the details of the revised points system and explore its impact on the evolving meta.
Tencent Introduces Revised Point System for 2023 Esports Season
With the announcement of the 2023 esports season, PUBG Mobile’s publishers Tencent and Krafton introduced a new point system. The previous season, which concluded with the PMGC Finals on January 8th, set the stage for teams worldwide to adapt their gameplay strategies according to the changes brought about by the new system. These modifications were particularly noticeable during the spring seasons of the PMPL.
As anticipated, BGMI Esports has also embraced the newly introduced 10-point structure for scoring. This scoring distribution has been in use for a considerable period in PUBG PC championships. Tencent initially implemented this system in regional tournaments for the mobile edition of the game in China at the beginning of the 2022 season. However, there are a few differences between the scoring systems used in Chinese competitions and the recently established one. Notably, national competitions in China feature 15 teams instead of the usual 16.
Hence, BGMI Esports has aligned itself with the global trend by adopting the new 10-point scoring system, which has already been successfully employed in PUBG PC championships. However, slight variations exist between the scoring systems of Chinese competitions and the system recently implemented in other regions. For instance, national competitions in China involve 15 teams instead of the typical 16.
BGMI’s New Point Distribution for 2023
The previous point system awarded 15 points to the team that secured a Chicken Dinner. However, the new system lowers this value by 5 points, resulting in 10 points for a Chicken Dinner. Similarly, the second-place finisher now receives 6 points instead of the previous 12, while the third-place finisher receives 5 points.
In the 2023 season, teams will accumulate points based on their rankings in individual games according to the following distribution:
- 1st Place – 10 points
- 2nd Place – 6 points
- 3rd Place – 5 points
- 4th Place – 4 points
- 5th Place – 3 points
- 6th Place – 2 points
- 7th Place – 1 point
- 8th Place – 1 point
- 9th Place – 0 points
- 10th Place – 0 points
- 11th Place – 0 points
- 12th Place – 0 points
- 13th Place – 0 points
- 14th Place – 0 points
- 15th Place – 0 points
- 16th Place – 0 points
- 1 Finish – 1 point
