‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy is equivalent to Ashes’- Steve Waugh

Border-Gavaskar trophy

Former Australian skipper, Steve Waugh has said that the India vs Australia series, widely known as the Border-Gavaskar series is of great significance to the Australian side.

He also said that the series is equally important like the Ashes which is played in every two years. Waugh stressed on the intensity of the competition between both the sides when they clash in the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

“The Border-Gavaskar trophy is equivalent to the Ashes. Shows the growing competition between the two countries. Tied Test is the greatest game I have ever played. Calcutta Test loss was memorable,” Waugh said during a virtual interaction at India’s global week 2020.

Waugh also went on to express his attachment with India during his career and how he missed playing in India especially at the iconic grounds like Eden Gardens. He believes cricket is one of the reasons behind his love for India and the healthy on-field rivalry between both the nations.

“India was interesting. Toured every 10 years. I couldn’t stop looking out of the window. India was fascinating and I began to fall in love with the place. Great connections through cricket.” Waugh added.

India is scheduled to tour Australia in the latter part of this year for a four-match Test series starting from December. The second test match is expected to be a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval starting from December 11. The third and fourth Test will begin on December 26 and January 3 respectively.
