The upcoming and most awaited Berlin Formulae E has been postponed amid the coronavirus concerns. This call was taken by Formulae E and FIA officials who extended this championship as this was the need of an hour.
The Berlin Formula E was scheduled to take place on June 21. This is the fifth formula championship in a row that has been called off after Rome, Paris, Seoul, and Jakarta.
“With strict containment measures continuing to put in place globally by governments to limits the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Formulae E along with FIA have jointly decided to extend the season suspension until at least at the end of June” This was the statement that was released by the organizers.
“Also we can confirm that red flags have been applied in May and June, meaning the Berlin E-Prix can no longer take place as originally planned on June 21” it added.
Formula E is aiming to return to racing as soon as possible, but the priority in the decision making should be health and safety of staff and the entire Formula E community of teams, manufacturers, drivers, partners, drivers, and fans as well as citizens and the residents of the cities in which we race.
As the number of races that will be conducted in the Formula E championship will be high in numbers so Formulae E and FIA will assess all the available options to conduct the races as they need to figure out the right time and right moment for that.
The contingency planning continues to explore staging races behind closed doors, using permanent track facilities as they will introduce new double-headers and extending the season beyond its original end date so we need to wait and watch whether the tournament will happen on the time and date which has been fixed as of now or not.
