BCCI to celebrate T20 World Cup win with Rohit Sharma and Co in open-bus parade

Rohit Sharma and Co. will be felicitated on Thursday evening at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a plan to host a ceremony in honour of welcoming the Indian cricket team, who won the T20 World Cup in Barbados. BCCI also plans an open bus parade in Mumbai

The Men in Blue has arrived in the nation’s capital, New Delhi. Several BCCI sources have confirmed that the Indian contingent will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for breakfast, and then later in the day, the team will travel to Mumbai with a chartered flight.

The BCCI will first host a ceremony for the Indian cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium if weather allows. And then an open bus parade is also scheduled for one kilometre at marine drive. A BCCI source said, “This is a historic occasion and the BCCI wants to make sure that the fans get a chance to celebrate the success of the Indian team and that’s why an open bus parade, like the one that happened in 2007, is being planned. However, keeping the traffic and security aspects in mind, the roadshow could happen only for a stretch of one kilometre through the Marine Drive.”

The BCCI is preparing the Wankhede Stadium for the scheduled event. There is no information available on whether the venue will be open for fans or not. However, in 2007 when team India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, the celebration venue was thrown open for the fans too.

Team India won the T20 World Cup on Saturday, 29 June and they were scheduled to leave Barbados on Sunday. However, the team was stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl and was stuck there with Indian media personnel. BCCI secretary came forward to help the stranded Indian media personnel and offered them to fly with the Indiam team.

In the early hours of Wednesday (local time) team India with 20 media personnel left for Delhi on a chartered flight. The flight took about 16 hours to reach Delhi at 6 am IST. Now, in the afternoon, Rohit Sharma and his men with the T20 World Cup trophy will travel to Mumbai for the scheduled event and open bus parade.
