Ashley Young Joins Inter Milan from Manchester United: Good Move by Antonio Conte?

Inter Milan has completed the signing of Ashley Young from Manchester United for a reported fee of 1.3 million pounds.

Young has become the third player to move from Old Trafford to the San Siro club in the space of under six months, following Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez’s transfers last year.

Inter have formed a new medical process for joining players – the medical is split into two parts with Young also set to undergo tests at a hospital called Humanitas, in Rozzano just outside Milan, on Saturday.

The 34-year-old has rejected a contract extension at English Giants Manchester United after spending eight-and-a-half seasons at the club – with Young’s principle decision for departing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad being based on playing time, which he lacked lately.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer said,

“To be fair, he’s 35 in the summer, and if he gets a two-year contract somewhere I think it’s up to him to take that.

“He’s been a good servant, captain, won trophies, but we’ve got players coming through.”

Ashley Young said on Twitter: ‘To @ManUtd: you gave me the chance to play with legends, to win trophies, to work under the greatest manager in history and to be your captain. Thank you for letting me be part of your story for eight and a half years.

‘To the United fans: every time I walked on the pitch wearing your shirt I gave you my all. Thank you for your support during the highs and the lows. I leave as one of you, see you again in an away end soon.’

Young was seen having a brief chat with an Inter official before being whisked away to Coni’s sports institute to undergo his medical.

The midfielder turned defender still had six months remaining on his Old Trafford deal but was desperate to secure a move away this month after learning of Inter’s interest.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to retain Young’s services, but the England international had his heart set on a move to Italy.

Solskjaer described Young as having been ‘a good servant’ for United but admitted that the club was not willing to offer the veteran another lengthy contract.

It could turn out to be a good move for Inter as he has a vast Premier League experience.
