WPL 2025 Auction: A Mini Auction to Bolster Squads
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is gearing up for its second season, and the excitement is fever high. The BCCI has confirmed that a total of 120 players, including 91 Indians and 29 overseas players, will go under the hammer at the WPL 2025 Player Auction on December 15th in Bengaluru.
A Mini Auction to Fill the Gaps
This auction is primarily a mini-auction, as most teams have retained their core players. With only 19 slots available overall, including five for overseas players, the focus will be on strategic signings to fill specific roles and strengthen the squad depth.
Team Purses and Strategies
Gujarat Giants, who parted ways with Indian pacer Sneh Rana, enter the auction with the highest purse of INR 4.4 crore. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals, the runners-up in the inaugural season, have the lowest purse of INR 2.5 crore.
Teams will be looking to strategically utilize their purse to acquire players who can complement their existing squad and address specific areas of weakness. Some teams may prioritize experienced players, while others may focus on young talent with high potential.
The Future of Women’s Cricket in India
The WPL has already made a significant impact on women’s cricket in India. The league has provided a platform for talented women cricketers to showcase their skills and inspire the next generation of players. With the second season on the horizon, the WPL is poised to elevate women’s cricket status in India.
As the auction day approaches, fans eagerly await the bidding wars and the formation of strong teams. The WPL 2025 promises to be another thrilling season of women’s cricket.
