Why did Twitter remove the “Blue tick” from the accounts of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam? Here is why!

On Friday morning, a lot of celebrities and sports persons woke up to Twitter removing the Blue tick (sign of a verified account) from their respective accounts. This move is a part of the new look of Twitter which was acquired by Elon Musk a couple of months ago.

Mega Indian celebrities and ace Athletes have all experienced the same thing as the legacy verified ticks are all set to be replaced by the new “Twitter Blue” which will not come for free. If you are an Indian, being a celebrity to get a verification tick is not a requirement anymore.

One will have to subscribe to Twitter’s new plan as INR 650 per month will be enough to keep your account verified. Players like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have all been stripped off the Blue tick and it will be interesting to see if they subscribe to get their accounts verified.

This change is not just confined to the cricketers but World famous footballers have also experienced the same. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Erling Haaland among other famous footballers are also without a Blue tick.

In case you are handling a business, then you will have to pay INR 82,300 in order to verify your business on Twitter. Meanwhile the social media company under the ownership of Elon Musk changed its policy to give verification to people.

Usually Twitter used to hand out blue ticks to Journalists, actors, established entities and politicians as a sign of authenticity. Last November, Twitter had segregated verified accounts into 3 categories – Golden for businesses, Gray for Government officials.

The monthly fees for maintaining the marks vary from $8 for individual online users to $1,000 to verify an organisation, with an additional $50 for each affiliate or staff account. As was the case with the prior blue tick awarded during the pre-Musk management of the site, Twitter does not verify the individual accounts.
